weight loss after 50

How did we all do with week 1 of the weight loss after age 50 diet? It didn’t go so well for me, as I actually got so sick (sore throat, runny/stuffy nose, bronchitis, coughing, miserable feeling). I really couldn’t follow the challenge completely.

I managed to stay away from Chips, white bread, cakes, donuts, candy & cookies.  I had ice cream & chocolate/Fudgesicles & Popsicles, fast and fried food (spicy chicken), Soda (I had 7 up 3 times while sick), OJ for extra vitamin C. When I’m sick I want spicy chicken to burn my throat, mashed potatoes and spinach. So I guess you can say the diet was a 50/50 shot last week.  I will do better this week.

Weight Loss After Age 50

A little information on Caloric intake for loosing weight after age 50:

General Requirements

The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute notes that while inactive, overweight women usually need 1,000 to 1,200 calories daily for weight loss, active, overweight women and women weighing more than 164 pounds usually require 1,200 to 1,600 calories each day. Obese women over age 50 can use their desirable body weight to estimate calorie needs for weight loss. Therefore obese women require 10 calories for each pound of desirable body weight. Therefore, if your goal weight is 125 pounds, you’d need about 1,250 calories daily. If you’re extremely active during your weight-loss program, you may require additional calories to avoid hunger.

Recommended Calorie Deficit

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that adults who lose 1 to 2 pounds per week are more likely to keep the weight off long-term. You can achieve this goal by reducing your current calorie intake by 500 to 1,000 calories a day. The CDC notes that exercising 60 to 90 minutes most days of the week also helps you to keep lost weight off.

I am active while I have my granddaughter, not much activity when I don’t LOL.  I’m changing my snack habits to fruit or yogurt, cheese (1 slice), peanuts 1/4 cup and anything else I can think of that won’t put on pounds and curve the snack craving.

Anyway, I weighed 157.4 last Monday when I started the weight loss after age 50 segment and this morning I still weigh 157.4! LOL Even though I lost 1.8lbs in the beginning and gained it back, I’m happy that I did not go over my beginning weight!  I know I will lose at least 2 lbs this week.  I have to, I need to get back to at least 135 lbs. I was happy with that weight!
