“Fright Night,” a DreamWorks release, is rated R for bloody, horror, violence and language, including some sexual references. Running time: 101 minutes.
Let me start by saying I don’t think I’ve ever seen a comical/horror film before! During the first 5 minutes of the movie I was scared and jumped 4 times! The first time was within the first minute of the movie!
In between the ewww and ohh of the movie and the ducking out of the way of things coming at you or to you, you’ll be laughing! I love the nerdy friend Ed! Towards the end of the movie, he says something pertaining to sex and I asked my daughter “Now how would he know that?” and her reply “good question!” lol
The movie is a remake of the 1985 Fright Night, but with less gore in it! Its based around a vaguely nerdy teenager named Charlie (Anton Yelchin) who thinks his mysterious and seductive new next-door neighbor, Jerry (Colin Farrell), is a vampire. No one else believes him except for his even nerdier childhood pal, Ed (Christopher Mintz-Plasse).
The character Peter Vincent (David Tennant) provides the film’s biggest laughs. He portrays a flamboyant, but self-loathing fraud who peddles his illusions to the masses on the Strip.
The film takes place in the overly developed suburban area outside Las Vegas, where people come and go all the time. Those who do live there often sleep all day and work all night. With all the abandoned houses, this is the prefect setting for a bloodsucker to lay low.
Did you know if a house is abandoned, a vampire doesn’t need an invitation to go in the house? I didn’t know it, but do now!
A few suspenseful scenes:
The first scene was within the first minute of the movie! That’s all I’m going to say!
Second scene in which Jerry is standing outside Charlie’s house waiting to borrow a 6 pack, looking in and commenting at the kitchen, but not entering – because he hasn’t been invited in.
Third scene is when Charlie breaks into Jerry’s home to rescue the dancer he knows and heard scream!
The last is when Charlie is telling his mother not to open the door and Jerry goes into their back yard!
Not going to say much more as I’ll tell the movie. There are plenty of suspenseful scenes, those are just a few!
I know we all bring our children to the movies with us, but I would suggest a baby sitter for this one!
