Tis the season new adorable Christmas stories to read to our children. I recently came across such a cute book, you can read it to a very young child and they will love it! It’s called Christmas Cats Fear for the Deer. It’s sort of reminded me of the story of Bambi, but with a Christmas theme.
Reading makes me sleepy, so I don’t like to read books. However I did enjoy reading to my daughter and now that I have my granddaughter, I am enjoying reading to her. When I found that I could get a copy of The Christmas Cats, I jumped at it because it looked like it would be a book my granddaughter, her grampa and I would enjoy reading together.
The Christmas Cats Fear for the Deer is written by Constance Corcoran Wilson with art by Gary McCluskey. This children’s book is sure to be a hit with your little ones this year. A Seuss-ical tale for young children which builds upon the morals of the first three Christmas Cats books (The Christmas Cats in Silly Hats, The Christmas Cats Chase Christmas Rats and The Christmas Cats Encounter Bats).
The deer in Scott County Park are harming the trees by eating all the bark. So, the hunters have come out to take care of the problem in the park. The Christmas Cats are summoned to save the deer from the hunter and find them a new, safe place to live. The Christmas Cats decide that they need to come up with a plan to save the deer! What will they do to save the deer while also appeasing the town who is upset that the deer are eating the bark on their park trees?
I enjoyed this book so much (even if it is written for kids) as you are reading it, you want to find out what happened, how did the cats help protect the deer! What is unique about this story book is that there is an activity maze so the kids can help the cats rescue the deer. There is also a page to color and a website to upload it to so everyone can see it. I’ve never seen this in any other books, what a fantastic way to get the kids involved, and get them thinking!
This is the fourth book in the Christmas Cat series but is the first one that I have read. This is a very cute Christmas book with beautiful illustrations. The Cats come up with a creative solution to the problem of the deer. This would be a great book to read to children and to have them read to you.
I’m sure your kids will love this book as much as we did. In my opinion, it is a definite *must add* to a Christmas book wish list or gift list for children who love animals and reading!

About the Author Connie Corcoran Wilson
Connie has published 30 titles in a variety of genres, with the Christmas Cats series written with and for her now-six-year-old granddaughters, Ava and Elise. (Illustrations by Gary McCluskey) now entering its fourth installment. The Christmas Cats in Silly Hats began the four-book series and the cats help other animals in distress while wearing a delightful series of silly hats. The second book in the series, The Christmas Cats Chase Christmas Rats, was a plea for all to remain unprejudiced (“Do not judge others without knowing, or prejudice you will be showing”) and the third book, The Christmas Cats Encounter Bats, stressed the need to honor all life as sacred. This year’s book , The Christmas Cats Fear for the Deer, encourages helping others and also strikes a blow for individuals who some might consider handicapped, but who can succeed and excel if simple accommodations are made for them.
