In 2010, a movie called “ON STRIKE FOR CHRISTMAS” premiered! This movie has become one of my favorite Christmas movies. Why? Well, lets just say I can relate to this movie. You can catch On Strike for Christmas at 3PM CST on Lifetime, today, December 3rd!
On Strike for Christmas is about a mom/wife who gets fed up with NO family support. She asks for help several times for getting the outside decorations up, getting the tree, addressing the Christmas cards, baking for one son’s banquet and 2 parties on the same night at their house. So she got fed up and went on strike! All she wanted was a little help from her husband and 2 boys.
So to meet the Christmas demands, her husband and 2 high school boys (seniors) decide to bake the family secret recipe cookies (neither knows how to bake or separate eggs!) for the banquet. They ended up giving the recipe to a bakery when their cookies didn’t turn out so good. They thought if they did that, the strike would be over. WRONG! So they ordered gifts via the internet and a prepackaged dinner was ordered for Christmas dinner. Yep, they cheated! LOL
All in all, this is a good movie, teaches a lesson to everyone who watches it. Don’t forget to catch it on December 14th at 11 am CST on Lifetime!
Why I can relate!
I love the holiday season, but half of the time, I feel like she does. There is just not enough time to do all the Holiday stuff, have family time, work and enjoy yourself! A lot of times, I feel like I just don’t want to do any of it! What about you?
Every year my family goes through the same routine. Going to get the Christmas tree becomes a PITR (Pain in the Rear!) to get everyone together to go get it. Our family tradition has become my husband, daughter, son in law and myself go pick out a family tree. HOWEVER, every year it gets harder to pick a date because of my son in laws hours at work, or if my husband doesn’t feel in the mood to go get one. Decorating outside is usually put off due to rain or freezing weather!
In 2013, I especially felt that way. I had work to do, my mother was with us for a month, so I was trying to spend time with her because she doesn’t get I am working not playing on the laptop! 17 days before Christmas day and we still had to go get the tree, decorate it and outside and I still had baking to do! Plus I still didn’t have one gift! LOL Everything was last minute!
Note: 2014 is different! As of November 30th, we have majority of the decorations up outside! Only thing we have left to put are the lights and the candy cane yard sticks and Santa signs! My husband is early this year, we have a 4 month old granddaughter and he’s so excited to get it done so she can see it when she comes to visit at the end of the week! We also have a fake fireplace, being built by grandpa! Just need to add the brick wrap we just received! So maybe this year won’t be a pain like usual! LOL
I’m wondering how many of you have a holiday movie or show that you can relate to this time of year. I enjoy lots of holiday movies, 2 of my favorites are The Night They Saved Christmas and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, however, they do not relate to my life for the Holidays. 😉
